MAGA supporters are celebrating after Donald Trump said he had won the election, with many joking that this is his third victory in an apparent reference to the claim that the 2020 election was stolen by the Democrats.
The former President declared victory from Florida at 2:30 a.m. ET, saying he had masterminded the “greatest political movement of all time” and pledging to “help [the] country heal.”
While Trump’s victory had not been officially declared at the time of writing, his forecast wins in swing states, including Pennsylvania and Georgia, point to the White House.
Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, who won a House seat after she switched Colorado districts, was one of the many MAGA supporters who joined the celebrating, posting on X, formerly Twitter, “Third time’s a charm.”
Similarly, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a longtime Trump fan, said on X: “Donald Trump has just been elected President for a THIRD time.”
Trump’s first victory was in 2016, when he beat Hillary Rodham Clinton. He lost to President Joe Biden the second time he ran, in 2020, but he and many of his supporters claimed the election was stolen. This is what some MAGA supporters are alluding to when they say “third victory.”
Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz posted a clip of Trump’s victory speech on X with the caption: “Your President.” Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis had not said anything about whether Trump has won the national election at the time of writing, but, after polls closed in his state, he wrote on X: “Donald Trump has carried the state of Florida and has earned 30 electoral votes.”
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who also won reelection this week, reposted messages on X from other world leaders, including El Salvador President Nayib Bukele and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
MAGA supporters who are not politicians also jumped onto the celebrations on social media, including business owner and My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell, who posted a picture of him and Trump sitting next to each other with the message: “Congratulations President Trump.”
Conservative media figure Charlie Kirk posted four photos of him and Trump, taken at different points, with the message: “Humbled by this moment. Congratulations to President Trump, the hardest-working candidate in history. To God be the Glory.”
His political advocacy organization, Turning Point Action, shared a picture on X of Trump in the Oval Office with the text: “Welcome back Mr. President.” “America’s future is in safe hands, Congratulations President Trump,” it wrote with the photo.
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said on X: “There is hope and morning in America again! Donald Trump is now our President-elect, chosen by the American people for such a time as this. The citizens of our great country used their voices to decisively reject four more years of Harris’ open borders, high crime, increased cost of living, weaponized government, dangerous radical woke ideology, and weakness on the world stage—demanding instead, a return to common sense, peace, and prosperity.
“This historic moment requires a proven leader with a record of success and the unwavering resolve necessary to fight for every American, tackle the many challenges we all face, and return our country to greatness. President Donald Trump is that leader.”
He went on: “With President Trump back in the White House, there is no obstacle too great and no challenge too difficult. House Republicans stand ready and prepared to immediately act on Donald Trump’s America First agenda to improve the lives of every family, regardless of race, religion, color, or creed, and make America great again!”
